Jack Powell’s creative process derives from collection of material and manufactured chaos from which he sifts and solves. An assemblage artist at heart, drawn to the power of computers, he has developed a style of animated collage that transforms found imagery into fantastical visual worlds and captivating stories. A collector of not-so-fine things, Powell finds joy in perusing trash piles, frequenting flea markets and sifting through public domain in the vast digital space. He is a prolific tinkerer with an intense focus, sharp attention to detail and discipline that allows him to finish large complicated projects on his own.
Sometimes deep and compelling, often light and even preposterous, Powell’s art is spun together with allegory, humor, and subtle but clever social commentary.
